Indoor Positioning System Inspection & Survey Mapping

About this Project
The scope of this project was to create GIS maps that correspond to legacy inspection and survey forms of MICA-BCA for use with the deployment of ArcGIS IPS, Indoor Positioning System. The objective was to provide a spatial component to legacy forms and provide easier access to users. Ultimately, this proof-of-concept approach would lead to a singular and unified interface. Examples of the preliminary forms are sustainability, fire inspections, utility data, etc..
Upon receipt of the Excel spreadsheets, we built corresponding feature classes in ArcGIS Pro, each having its own unique fields and domains. Next, we converted the calculation logic from Excel and published to ArcGIS Field Maps for testing. However, converting legacy forms from Excel spreadsheets to GIS required more than simple conversion tools: cross field calculations available in Excel were not possible in ArcGIS Field Maps. To solve that challenge, our analyst created expressions in ArcGIS Field Maps that replicated the tabular calculations in Excel. This allowed for a functional online environment.
Several iterations were undertaken, and we made adjustments based on user feedback and efficacy standards. Our efforts on this project set the foundation for a singular and unified point of access to forms necessary for inspection. ArcGIS Field Maps also allows for digital attachments (e.g. photos, etc.) which are useful for maintenance and compliance with regulations. The first set of maps serve as proof of concept for the remaining 90+ inspection forms that serve airport operations and management.
