Electrical Asset GPS Inventory
- Client: Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA)
- Prime Consultant: Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick, Inc.
About this Project
Urban GIS joined with Hampton, Lenzini and Renwick to perform an audit of the electrical utilities controlled by the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA). The ISTHA has improved the electrical infrastructure in many sections of its system with its ongoing lane and surface reconstruction. These updates allow for better management of illumination, signage, and safety features. A full survey of the entire 294 mile system provided GPS location information and imagery for all electrical assets.
Our team utilized the tabular inventory data containing the ISTHA assets and brought it into a GIS framework. Corrected locations and feature images were then gathered using ArcGIS Collector for each of the assets. These included toll plaza power supplies, lighting controllers, traffic control signage, and CCTV locations.
Up-to-date information on each of the electrical assets provides the data necessary for making informed decisions related to proposals for improvements and future growth. Having accurate location information improves the efficiency with which repairs and upgrades can be performed. This also allows the ISTHA to better understand and track the costs of electrical usage in distinct areas.
