County Pavement Management Program
- Client: Cook County Dept. of Transportation and Highways
- Prime Consultant: AECOM Technical Services, Inc.
About this Project
At the outset, Urban GIS collected Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) and truck volume data (single and multi-unit trucks) and added it to Cook County pavement sections in GIS. Combined, that data would later be used for forecasting and planning. We then analyzed GIS data to identify road section candidates for repair treatment such as crack sealing and modified the geometry of those sections based upon length and location. Additionally, we performed a manual, visual condition review of road sections to determine current conditions, pavement distresses and repair eligibility. We enhanced the inventoried data by populating other critical attributes and merging contiguous sections of eligible pavement into one.
Our contribution to this project supported AECOM in their efforts to update the PAVER database with current and accurate information, helped CCDOTH identify eligible road sections for preservation treatments and provided a vehicle for feedback on road preservations candidate sections from various district representatives throughout the County.
