Cook County Highway Asset Program

About this Project
Urban GIS played an integral part in the implementation of a GIS based County-wide highway asset management program. This program provides the Department with a tool for asset management, allowing CCHAP to maintain a pavement inventory for staff to determine which roads need repairs and the types of repairs needed. The program also tracks signs, lights, and other field assets.
Our team leveraged its engineering knowledge and familiarity with County data and systems in providing the following services: supporting documentation and data requirements collection, existing County data files conversion, field survey work, geodatabase design, metadata and data dictionary creation, quality assurance and control, and mobile device training on newly utilized technology for County staff.
By visualizing its assets spatially, the Cook County Highway Department has been able to organize and design maintenance programs and planning functions that maximize efficiency and minimize costs. This program enhances the assessment process, giving the department greater control managing the roads of the second most populous county in the country.
