About this Project

Urban GIS worked with the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority (ISTHA) to provide ongoing technical support for existing and proposed infrastructure management application development. Our team also assisted ISTSHA with various GIS and operational requests. The services provided by Urban GIS included: data conversion, data management, technical writing, and video production, as well as mapping and custom application development of an overweight trucking permitting solution. In addition, we developed both a solution to acquire, standardize, and aggregate data from various traffic data sources, and a process that enables temporal data sharing for the Tollway’s linear referencing system.

The overweight trucking permitting application has streamlined and simplified the permitting process. Urban GIS’ efforts resulted in reduced costs and increased efficiency. Tasks now require less personnel, as requests are fed directly into ISTHA databases. A broad community of users, both public and private, are using applications to review construction plans/lane closures, request utility locates, and track construction throughout the Tollway system. Users can now instantly find answers to questions that once required multiple phone calls and digging through files.
