About this Project

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD) is responsible protecting the health and safety of the public by protecting the quality of the water source., Lake Michigan. Urban GIS established a formal enterprise GIS data repository to help the MWRD better live into their mission. This repository is the central component of their overall GIS and permits GIS data to be readily accessed and utilized by a wide variety of District business users and decision -support systems. Services we provided included GIS planning, database application and design, software customization, system testing, and training.

This state-of-the-art GIS ties together district-wide data so that staff can created integrated reports, customized maps, and specialized analysis. As the primary tool for asset mapping and management, the Enterprise GIS helps staff manage seven plants, including one of the world’s largest water reclamation plants, six additional plants, and 23 pumping stations. It allows MWRD to allocate resources effectively and to make ecologically sound decisions.
